The ISSA is a security organization that focuses on educating individuals on comprehensive IT security strategies.  The  focus is security from implementation to strategy from the CIO to the Administrator at the edge of the network.  With that in mind, the local chapter of ISSA here in South Carolina is backed by a strong international organization that brings insight, training tools, and information sharing from around the world.  Membership is diverse and spans private industry, government, education, allowing for ideas to converge and be shared to keep folks from reinventing the wheel constantly.

 

Operationally, we focus on providing support for CISSP training and continuing accreditation to current CISSP's.  As a by-product of that focus, much of what we educate on can fit within continuing education requirements for other certifications as well.  We are run by security professionals in the real world that seek to bring current and relevant solutions to todays issues and threats.

 

Our next meeting will be March 27h between 11:45-1:15 at the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon's Learning Center.  An agenda for that meeting is being currently firmed up but will more than likely include a briefing about Microsoft's new Interoperability push and what it means to you as a security professional as well as a possible talk on E-Discovery.  More information will be forthcoming as things are finalized.  Lunch will be provided, and door prizes will be given out.  If you are interested then please contact us and register to attend the meeting.

 

During the meeting we will also be discussing other relevant topics to direction for this ISSA Chapter and welcome input.  We know for certain we are starting a CISSP study group.  Those that are interested please visit our website and contact Kim Briggs for details.  Beyond that, we are open and want to take this chapter to the next level and provide real benefits to the folks that are members through whatever means makes sense.
